CBAM readiness check for exporters

Ten questions, two minutes. See how ready your plant is to give EU buyers the emissions data CBAM asks for, and what to do next. Your answers stay in this browser.

  1. 1. Do you know the 8-digit CN codes of the goods you ship to the EU, and which of them CBAM covers?
  2. 2. Do you know what CBAM costs your buyer per tonne when they use the EU default values?
  3. 3. Do you know when your buyers need your emissions data for goods imported in 2026?
  4. 4. Do you record fuels, electricity and production every month, for each product?
  5. 5. Do you have a written monitoring plan in English?
  6. 6. Have you calculated your plant's own emissions per tonne of product?
  7. 7. Do your suppliers of steel or aluminium (billets, wire rod, coil, ingots) give you their embedded emissions?
  8. 8. Have you contacted an accredited CBAM verifier?
  9. 9. Have you sent your EU buyers a summary of the emissions in your goods?
  10. 10. Do you know whether your other steel or aluminium products are on the proposed 2028 list?

How the score works

Yes counts in full, Partly for half and No for nothing. Monthly records, your own emissions and the verifier count double, because only verified actual emissions replace the EU default values. Questions that do not apply to you are left out.

Why being ready pays

Since January 2026, EU importers pay for the emissions in the steel and aluminium they buy. Without your verified data they must use the EU default values plus a mark-up that rises to 30% in 2028, so a ready supplier is a cheaper supplier.
