Your own emissions per tonne, and whether verification pays

For plants that make bolts, wire, tubes, forgings or other goods from steel or aluminium they buy. Enter one year of fuel use, the metal you bought and what you produced. You get your figure per tonne, the EU default it would replace and the yearly saving set against a verifier's quote.

Your product

Type a product name or the start of its CN code.

All output of this product from the plant, not just what goes to the EU.

Fuel burned in the plant

Everything burned for this product: furnaces, heat treatment, boilers, forklifts. If the plant makes other goods too, enter only this product's share. Electricity is left out: for steel and aluminium only direct emissions count.

Steel or aluminium you bought

Wire rod, billets, coil, bars, ingots and other covered goods used to make this product in the year, including what ended up as cut-offs.

Leave the figure empty to use the EU default value. A supplier's figure counts only with a verifier's report; without one the default applies.

Installation details for your buyer

Your EU buyer must report where the goods were made. These go on the printout and stay in your browser.

How the figure is worked out

Fuel used × net calorific value × emission factor gives the plant's direct emissions (Guidance 3, equations 5 and 6). The steel or aluminium you bought adds its own embedded emissions: tonnes used × the supplier's verified figure, or the EU default value with mark-up when there is none (section 4.2.2.3). The total divided by the tonnes produced is your figure per tonne.

For most processors the fuel adds little; the metal they buy is most of the figure. That is why a verified figure from your mill matters as much as your own records.

Who this is for

Makers of fasteners, wire, tubes, forgings, castings, structures and aluminium products who buy their metal. Mills that make steel or aluminium from ore or scrap need the full method and the Commission's Communication Template.

Method: Commission Guidance Document 3 (August 2026), standard factors from its Annex D (IPCC 2006). Default values: Commission file of 6 August 2026. An estimate to prepare for verification, not a verified value. Nothing you type leaves your browser. See the disclaimer.
